Jed Williams Featured in Redfin on FHA Loans and Home Affordability

HAGAN REALTY • IN THE NEWS

A national platform.
A client-first perspective.

Redfin features Jed Williams, Hagan Realty’s Principal Broker, in its guide to FHA loans and home affordability.

When Redfin sought professional insight on FHA affordability, it invited Hagan Realty’s Jed Williams to contribute. The resulting article, How Much House Can I Afford With an FHA Loan?, published October 13, 2026, includes Jed’s perspective in an “Expert Tip” and links readers to Hagan Realty.

For Jed, an agent for 25 years and Hagan Realty’s Principal Broker since 2004, the essential question reaches beyond a lender’s approval: How does homeownership fit the life a buyer wants to lead?

“But only you can decide how much you can truly afford.”

Experience behind the perspective

Jed Williams is the Principal Broker and co-founder of Hagan Realty, based in Germantown, Maryland. His 25 years as an agent include helping buyers and sellers navigate decisions across the Washington metropolitan area and the broader Mid-Atlantic region.

He holds the Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) designation, a credential focused on buyer representation. His background in finance, economics and information systems informs an analytical approach to evaluating homes, comparing options and explaining tradeoffs.

Jed has served for many years on Maryland REALTORS®’ Statewide Forms Committee and for five years on the Northern Virginia Association of REALTORS® (NVAR) Standard Forms Committee. Serving on both associations’ forms committees gives him a distinctive perspective on the documents used in transactions across state lines. His service also includes the Professionalism and Ethics Advisory Group, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and Grievance Committee.

NVAR has invited Jed to serve as co-chair of its Small Broker Forum in 2027, extending his commitment to professional leadership and the independent brokerage community.

His media recognition also includes a feature in the March 2025 issue of DC Metro Real Producers magazine. Together with his Redfin contribution, it gives prospective clients another way to get to know the professional behind Hagan Realty.

Qualification is the starting point. Affordability is personal.

In his contribution to Redfin, Jed explains that lenders evaluate a buyer’s financial picture to determine borrowing eligibility. The buyer then has a separate decision to make about a comfortable housing budget. That distinction is central to thoughtful home buying.

A useful conversation starts with three questions:

1. What payment fits your everyday life?

Consider the full housing cost alongside savings, transportation, family expenses and the priorities you want to preserve. A comfortable budget should leave room for the life beyond the house.

2. What cash will you want to keep available?

Plan for the move and the first months of ownership. Closing expenses, repairs and an emergency cushion deserve a place in the conversation alongside the down payment.

3. How does the home fit the plan?

Compare the home’s condition, location and ongoing obligations with your budget. Bring your agent and lender into the discussion early so the search reflects both your goals and your financing options.
