The area now known as Arlington was originally part of the ten-mile federal district created for the nation’s capital. The Virginia portion was returned to the Commonwealth in 1847, and the jurisdiction was later known as Alexandria County before being renamed Arlington County in 1920.

Arlington Transit operates local routes connecting neighborhoods with Metro, schools, employment areas, shopping, and community destinations. Metrobus supplements those services, while VRE’s Crystal City station provides commuter-rail connections.

Reagan National Airport is immediately accessible from Arlington, and the county’s trail and bicycle network supports additional transportation options. APS offers Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, dual enrollment, career and technical education, language and option programs, and other advanced or specialized pathways.
